Nanyuki Furaha foundation is a charitable Non-Governmental Organisation located in Nanyuki Town Founded by Cleopas Wachira and Andreina Iorio in collaboration with La Ricerca Della Felicita Association, Noi Con Voi, Col Cuore Per L'Africa, S.o.Solidarieta and in 2019 sustained by a project by Chiesa Valdese. The Foundation was initially started on 20th August 2014 to address the growing problem of street children.
We are situated in Nanyuki-Marura Rd Past ACK Mt. Kenya West Church, in Laikipia East Constituency of Laikipia County.
. The Institution usually hosts 50 children [Residents] of between the age bracket of 2 years and 14 years. Currently it hosts 46 residents. In addition, the institution also supports other 14 children at their homes after they were reintegrated to their families and the community. In our project area, a number of Orphaned, Under Privileged and Street Children are found. The problem of orphans / street children is acute due to urbanization, commerce and foreigners in the town. Due to the deaths of HIV/AIDS affected persons, Re-marriage of deserted / widowed / divorced women, absence of love and security in the families, Family disputes, these orphan and street children are left without care and support. These children are involved in drug abuse, participating in anti-social behaviours and criminal activities. Therefore, we envisage mainstreaming these children in the national building by providing care, support and protection in our Nanyuki Furaha Foundation Children Home.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
Passion: Our founders’ passion is reflected throughout our organization. From the work that we do with children and youth to the volunteers and board members that work with us, everyone is guided by our mission of improving the quality and future prospects of young lives in need.
Honesty: Honesty lies at the heart of our organization’s work. We do our work with utmost integrity and authenticity.
Creativity: We have learnt how to be creative problem solvers. We believe in thinking outside the box in a search for solutions, finding creative ways to make things happen and taking quick action.
Efficiency: Not always do we have the required funding for the global impact we strive to make, which means we have had to learn how to be efficient in our work. We believe in setting goals and accomplishing them within our limited resources.
Respect: We treat our board members, volunteers, aid-workers, partners, sponsors, and everyone we meet from the children we care for and service providers in the communities where we work with respect. We are humble when we make mistakes and quickly learn from them. We do not discriminate when hiring or working with others in various communities.
